DASL – Data and Story Library
DASL (pronounced “dazzle”) is an online library of data files and stories that illustrate the use of basic statistics methods. The authors provide data from a wide variety of topics so that statistics teachers can find real-world examples that will be interesting to their students.
OzDASL – Australasian Data and Story Library
A collection of datasets and related stories, primarily set within an Australasian context.  Datasets are organized by statistical method and complexity.
StatLib JASA Data Archive
Contains contributed datasets from articles published in the Journal of the American Statistical Association.
JSE Data Archive
Features datasets for general learning as well as those associated with articles in the Journal of Statistics Education.
Chance Data Sets
Contains links to data on topics such as baseball salaries and the stock market.
Time Series Data Sets from Quandl
Over 3 million time series datasets with statistical, financial, and economic data tailored for researchers, and especially students.
Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR)

It is challenging to navigate some of these sites to find data appropriate for class projects, but you can find an amazing amount of information freely available.  Here is a guide to help you navigate census data.

U.S. Census Bureau home page. Statistical Abstracts of the United States that contain frequently requested statistical tables on expenditures, employment, salary, births, deaths, and other census-based general data on the U.S. population.
Census State Data Centers
State-by-State listing of data centers, indices of publications, and access to census data.
U. S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS)
Statistics on occupational injuries and illness rates and violence in the workplace.
U. S. Department of Education (ED)
Statistical tables, charts, and studies related to education, including adult literacy education and inmate education.
U.S. Department of Justice
Data sets concerning crime and the justice system.
Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)
Crime data from the annual Uniform Crime Report (UCR); status of FBI investigations, and a list of the 10 most wanted fugitives.

National Archive of Criminal Justice Data (NACJD)
Datasets available from archived crime and justice data collection series and research studies from the U.S. Department of Justices’ Bureau of Justice Statistics, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and researchers.
National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA)
Statistics on drug abuse and addiction, and facts about the use and prevalence of marijuana, cocaine, and heroin. A compilation of data on drug abuse by 8th, 10th, and12th graders nationwide, covering issues such as the nature and extent of drug abuse, HIV/AIDS, and addiction and abuse research.

Data in Gapminder World
Over 500 data sets, most focusing on health and economic issues over time. The data can be downloaded into Excel or into the Gapminder software to display dynamic changes over time.
